Hi,
Gedalya here once again. Today, I want to open up about how faith and music have become two of the most defining—and intertwined—threads in my life. Looking back, I’m fascinated by how these forces came together, shaping my path as both an artist and a believer.
The Song That Wove It All Together
I’ll never forget the winter I came down with bronchitis. Stuck in a tiny studio apartment with a friend—both of us chasing musical dreams—I found myself feeling unwell, reflective, and searching for meaning. That’s when I wrote “Needle and Thread,” a song about our spiritual connection, like threads binding us together in a larger fabric. Interestingly, this was before I’d consciously begun any spiritual learning. You can listen to “Needle and Thread” on my website; it truly marked the beginning of my spiritual and musical journey.
Martial Arts and Meditation: The Unexpected Catalyst
As a kid, my interest in martial arts surprisingly opened the door to spirituality. The discipline and meditation involved sparked a period of introspection and spiritual thought, which naturally began to influence my songwriting.
As I delved deeper into spirituality, my music evolved. Songwriting became a tool for self-discovery—the lyrics reflecting my growth and changes. Faith and music, for me, have always been intertwined, each reinforcing the other and clarifying my path.
A Pause in the Music: The Silence Before the Song
There was a period when I took a break from music. I was absorbing so many new ideas that I didn’t quite know how to express them yet. What many call writer’s block, I see as a transition phase—a time when thoughts and beliefs are settling, preparing to be shared.
A New Direction in Songwriting
When I emerged from that silence, I wrote “Make Me a Sage,” a song born from my new focus on wisdom. My faith had shifted my priorities, and wisdom—seeing reality clearly—became my compass, guiding both my life and my music.
The most significant impact of faith on my music is in the messages: my songs now reflect my spiritual learnings. They’re not just melodies, but messages—each note and word a step toward deeper understanding and connection.
The Future of Faith-Filled Music
There’s more to this story—how my aspirations in music have transformed through faith. That’s a chapter I’ll share soon. For now, wishing you only good things as I look forward to what’s next.
